what the differ between those machine? I know HD is bigger than other but I did compare on sony site and the Chasing Playback and Simulataneous Rec/Playback not on 1065. Plus the 1065 is smaller than 860 is that bad?

what is Simulataneous Rec/Playback and Chasing Playback?

Can it record duel layer on +/-R?

Can it record rgb from sky without a problem like there issues on pioneer 545 - which I was going ahead.

Can it control the sky+ or HD?

    thanks

I'm interested in the Sony 1065.

Click here for specs and pics of front and rear.

They say it was £599 now £549, how can that be since it has only just come out, I've seen it online for £470 inc. free delivery.

More inputs at rear would have been more useful rather than 5 seperate outputs. If people are buying this, they've either going to use component or hdmi out.

    Here £463 inc. free delivery.

Considering the price drop of the 860, I'd expect the 1065 to be under £400 soon.

The only way you'll know the specs is by getting the instruction manual which is not on the Sony website yet.

The Sony looks interesting but I'd need convincing it's worth the extra money. I suppose if it works without any major issues that might convince me ;)

The user manual doesn't appear to be available yet on the Sony web site...
Not sure if it will record dual layer discs in both - & + formats? Nor does it record DVD-RAM. None of that might be an issue for me if everything else is ok.

I was about to buy a 1065 yesterday from my local Sony Centre but despite them telling me it had twin digital tuners, I wasn't convinced so decided against it.
I've spent most of the day trying to determine just what combination of tuners the 1065 has.

Best I can come up with is a single Digital and single Analogue.

    Anybody confirm this?

I just can't see the value in the additional £150 over the 860 unless it's the twin tuner facility?

    Cheers

It's got one digital and one analog tuner (see Marty2005's spec link above).

Keep in mind that the 860 is commonly available between £290 and £310, so quite a price differential between the two machines.

Not totally convinced about the 860, as after 1 week ownership continuous dirty disc fault messages, and unreliable recording. Would recommend getting a 2 year guarantee on whichever machine you get (free at John Lewis stores).

There is a manual for the HXD860, it is the 1065 that does not have a downloadable manual yet.

look in the manual can't see any info about control the sky box channel. I guess that back drawing plan again. Looking at the rear of 1065 this may control the sky box.

so - 1. pan ex75/ex85 can't do ws on dvd
    2. pio got issue of recording sky in rgb of copy pro
    3. sony 860 don't control sky box and don't do -DL where pio and pan do.

Damn - Is I'm asking too much???

Thanks again I guess I have to wait longer and have a break from this it doing my head in!!

I'm now the proud owner of a 1065.

I comes with an external IR transmitter for controlling decoder boxes (Sky) and has 2 tuners but it's 1 analogue and 1 digital. I only unboxed it last night so I havn't tried dvd recording yet.

Digital reception seems quite good even in a poor area (I've had a freeview box which has had trouble with the signal in my house before).

What would else would you like to know and is there anything you want me to try?

I did consider it until I downloaded the manual.

    As a flagship model for 2007 it's a dissapointment.

The MM functions are very limited, I'm sure LG and Samsung will have much better models in 2007. The usb port is a complete waste and is for pics only.

I would have expected a bigger hard disk, MM functions including dvd templates, editing and ethernet. Also CDText, lightscribe and a card-reader.

    £500 rrp. what a joke.
