I am in the market for a new receiver I've narrowed it down to tha Yammy 2700 but I am having trouble getting one. I found out that Sony are making an effort to get into the receiver market. How does this new 5200 perform. Are there any reviews or owners available already. Any opinions of how it compares to the Yamaha would be much appreciated. Thanks

I found out that Sony are making an effort to get into the receiver market.

I think you'll find they're already there :D

Do a search on this forum for the 5200 - there seem to be plenty of satisfied customers around here!

cant seem to find any useful info on the 5200, I want to have a look at magazine reviews as well as opinions of people that have audiotioned it

does the 5200ES do LPCM over hdmi for HD players and BD players??

yes it does

is it close to the 2700 Yammy or is the Yammy leagues above?

Cannot comment on the Yam but I got the big Sony this week and besides from a few annoying little niggles (cannot rename the HDMI inputs!!) it it a fantastic sounding amp - Blu Ray sound awesome (well Black hawk Down does anyway!!)

had a look but was a little confused when I got to the Video Features section. It shows 5200 as accepting 480i/480i/480i-1080i (no 1080p) whereas 3200 it shows input only 1080p. Then output it shows 5200 480i/480i-480p/480p-1080i and 3200 as output 1080p
