Sony 46w905 problem

Hi all, this is my first post.. not sure if I posted in the wrong section, if so then sorry :p

Anyway, I purchased a sony 46w905 around December last year.. after all the reviews saying it was 10/10 and is one of the best around..ect. I went for it.
When I first set it up and started watching I wasn't that impressed with the picture quality, the colours were excellent but didn't look very sharp or detailed as I expected. I have played with the settings quite a lot over the time I have had it and used settings posted on here too, and still not got the picture I am looking for.

we have a samsung UE40D6530WKXXU which looks much better to me on everything..netflix,freeview,bluerays ect. blacks appear to be a fair bit deeper but most notably is the sharpness and detail.

so what is going on here? surely the 46w905 is a better tv and should produce a better picture?? or could It be I have a lemon?

thanks for reading
