I have a Panasonic VCR, connected via a scart lead, and the quality of the text of the menus on the VCR is appalling. Much worse than any other set it has been connected to!

Anyone know if there any settings that can affect this?

Had the same problem with my VCR - in fact, even though it's S-VHS the picture quality almost unwatchable (as my daughter said once, "it's like watching a painting!").

Anyway, as Martin has suggested, Movie mode does improve it a lot.
