    Hi

As I wish to minimise cabling going into a wall mounted LCD ( most likely Sony KDL-40W2000 series) I was considering the Sony 1200ES Amp but thanks to everyone I realise that the video won't switch from Component to HDMI which I wish to use as the main link to the TV. The 3200Es unit will however but I have been unable to hear one and all Sony centres tell me that they won't get any to the end of Feb.

This is surprising as a London dealer (not Sony) has some in stock - so why is this? and are they UK product with Uk warranty and support?

As I have messed about with this for too long now I want to get on with it and have started to consider the Denon 2307 which again I haven't heard but is more available so.....

    1. Does the Denon switch the video and audio to HDMI from Component?
    2. The sony 3200 has support for LPCM (not sure about this but it might be more important in the future) - does the 2307 have this support also?

Anyone comments on the 2307 (against Sony if poss) good or bad

    Thanks in advance

    Robert

Yes the Denon 2307 does do Component to HDMI conversion.
It features HDMI 1.1 connections which are compatible with 8ch PCM-Support.

The Sony 3200 features HDMI 1.2a I believe, which is also compatible with 8ch PCM-Support.

To see the differences between 1.1 and 1.2a, look here.
Doesn't seem to be much difference at all really.

Do be careful, just because an amp is at a particular version of HDMI, doesn't mean it implements all the features. The 1200ES is a pertinent example - it's at v1.2a, but it doesn't implement LPCM over HDMI whereas the 3200ES does. Don't assume the Denon implements LPCM over HDMI unless the specifications explicitly state this. :)

    Big smiles,

    Andy.

This is a very good point. You can't just tell the capabilities utilised just by the HDMI version. So you need to pay careful attention the the specs.

The Denon 2307 does however explicity state that it is capable of 8-channel LPCM over HDMI; as does the Sony 3200.

I was only trying to point out the differences between them, with regard to their HDMI inputs/outputs.
