It's a nice monitor. I was walking past a Sony centre a couple of weeks ago and one of these caught my eye. Took a closer look - couldn't believe the brightness, contrast and black-level they've achieved with the X-Black tech. If they had a 20" 16:9 is would've bought one there and then.

Quoted response time is 12ms IIRC, so pretty good.

You can probably get cheaper panels, but IMHO the X-Black is worth the premium, although you suffer a bit with screen glare as a result of the screen coating they use).

The Viewsonic VP912B is the same (so probably cheaper), but can't find it in the UK. (http://www.viewsonic.com/products/desktopdisplays/lcddisplays/proseries/vp912b/ - review with video that shows the issue with screen glare - http://reviews.cnet.com/ViewSonic_VP912b/4535-3174_7-31081769.html?tag=tab)

    Cheers, Carl.

What's put me off on the Sonys is the screen coating. It's too shiney for my liking.

    I'm looking at a Viewsonic VX912B

well, thanks guys for your help.

I went for the sony option that I was asking about and it looks fantastic.

One thing I did do was use the disc that came with it to get the best picture but I ditchted it. I could get a better picture doing it myself, with the Sony disc the image was a bit blured. Is this often the case ?
