We've used both as we'd been using the Sony model and I thought it was crap. Unicol are the boys for after market brackets!

The thing we used for the Oil Platform install with the VPL10 was a Unicol bracket!

I have the Unicol mount. It is very good. Adjustable in every dimension you will need. Cost about £200.

I got the unicol one and it does the job fine, although it was a bit too long even with adjustment so I had to take my hacksaw to it.

It was fine to cut down, I actually fixed the top plate above the joists, for 2 reasons, the only way it can come down is if the ceiling collapses because the weight is actually on the joists rather than 4 wood screws, and secondly it looked neater because the plate is hidden and I just needed a hole in the ceiling for the shaft to go up.

I think you can order different pipe sizes for the unicol, I just ordered the wrong one and forgot to take into account I'm 6'2".
