    Afternoon all,

Annoyingly our router is in a room upstairs and tucked away on a shelf. This means our wifi signal isn't great downstairs to I recently added a wifi extender downstairs. This is making SONOS act a bit strangely.

I didn't have to reconnect anything, I assume it's because the wifi extender is just an extension of the existing network but since adding the extender rooms are missing on SONOS. It seems to be completely random too. Yesterday the kitchen was missing, give it a few minutes and it'll eventually add it. This morning the master bedroom was missing, again, give it time and it'll appear.

Is this down to the extender? Should I have changed something when I added it? My phone now connects to the new network name, I assume the Sonos still connect to the old name and the extender brings them
    Together?

    Thanks

Sonos does not support the use of wifi extenders.
Have you tried an Ethernet cable to one of your sonos devices, thus enabling sonosnet which is supposed to be better than wifi?

Ideally aim to use the Sonos wireless mesh for your Sonos system rather than running in wifi mode. Then you need to check the settings of your router and extender and make sure you set Sonos to use either channel 1 or 11 and your wifi to use the opposite - this keeps your wifi and Sonos wireless mesh well apart from each other and avoids wireless interference. This also means that if your wifi is using 'wide' channels then they don't interfere with Sonos either.

Thanks both. The router is hidden away in a room with no Sonos so can't plug a speaker direct into the router. Our wifi is 5G too so loads of different channels rather then just 1-11 so not sure if that makes any difference?

Is the Sonos boost worth a buy? Am I right in thinking that I plug that into the router and it creates the sonos net without the need to plug a speaker in to the router? I assume this will work fine with the extender?

Looking at adding a few more speakers this month so reckon I need to sort something as I don't reckon it'll work great with 5/6 speakers.

    Thanks.

Channels 1-11 only apply in the 2.4Ghz band.

Yes a boost plugged into the router would give you sonosnet.
If you buy direct from sonos , you have 100 days for a full refund if it does not help.
Also try sonos helpline, they are supposed to be very helpful.

Big fan of the Boost from Sonos. I have 12 Sonos units across the house and all work perfectly on wifi since I purchased a boost. Managed to get a mint used one for £35

I did think about that but annoyingly no spare sockets where the router is, just an extension lead which caused problems when I tried the home plug in it. Annoyingly I have a switch in the lounge near to the Sonos but it's full!

Thanks both for the suggestion. I've just ordered a boost to pick up tomorrow. Seems to be the easiest way to sort without having to run more wires!

Quick update... Got the Sonos boost yesterday... What a brilliant bit of kit. The app loads instantly, no hanging around searching like it used to do and it finds all rooms straight away with no delay or problems. Well worth buying!

    Thanks all!
