I've currently got a Sonos Connect reading my Lossless, Uncompressed FLAC files from a NAS drive and I use dBpoweramp for the ripping.

Could I potentially improve on the sound with the Bluesound Node 2 or any other Music Streamer ?

I like the feature of using an App to control it.

    Cheers

Interested in this also as I am tempted by a Node 2 moving from sonos connect...... there is nowt wrong with the sonos though and what I listen to sounds fine so I worry is it £500 wasted
Hoping to hear some user input in this thread :)

IMHO the Node 2 is only worthwhile if you have a Tidal subscription and wish to stream MQA files. I’ve been running a free Tidal trial for over a year now and even paying £0/mth I find it hard to love. Will probably move the Node 2 on once the trial finishes at the end of March.

I can recommend the Auralic Aries Mini however. Take a look, better feature set than the Node 2 and now has Spotify Connect. Both sound pretty much the same.

How do you have your Sonos connected ? Digital out or Analogue ?

From what I’m reading, and now your post, I’m inclined to stick with the Sonos.

I only listen to tunein radio and deezer, tried £19.99 deezer hifi but find the £9.99 one sounds good enough
It is funny the old hifi world, you always wonder is x y or z going to sound amazingly better

I use a ‘expensive at the time’ Digital Coax straight into my AVR. Probably not the best way to connect it up though.

Definitely worth exploring the use of an external DAC, improvements can sometimes be found. I had an Arcam irDac and loved that little thing, lovely sound.

Both are very good DACs and cast your eyes over a Beresford Caiman SEG.

Just tried an optical input, ssssss sounds were slightly better to my ear via coax BUT that was just one track on deezer flow so could have been differences through the recording

Just to add...... negligeable difference through the arcam dac via coax or optical
Also changed inputs on the amp from arcam to the analogue outs from the Sonos Connect...... again mostly identical sound!!!!!

I needed a headphone output when I moved to my current home Thus my purchase of the Arcam

Oh. Maybe I won’t bother looking for a DAC then. And you could sell yours by the ‘sound’ of it ;)

No I need the headphone socket for after 9:30pm

Your ears may be different but in all honesty there is no difference very much!

I play through Audiolab 8300A integrated amp
    Audioquest 2/4 slip speaker cable
    Into Tannoy XT6F speakers

So its a fairly decent system if there was a big difference I am sure it would show up,..... Maybe saved you a £££ or 3

I thought I was done with replacing or buying stuff until the next thing just gives up and dies.

Fat chance of that happening

I wouldn't disregard that at all, even though it is a chunk of money above what I was considering on spending. Can the awful panel display be turned off ?
