Sonos 5 - how to use as stand-alone amplified speaker/hack direct connection?

Novice Member

I own an old Sonos system, including a Sonos 5 play (1 gen) speaker. Is it possible to 'hack' the speaker, so I could directly plug in something like a hifiberry dac via the sonos line-in (or connecting to the internal speaker amp).

I'm aware the line-in can be used with when connected to the sonos network, but I want to get rid of sonos network/system, and instead directly use the Play 5 as an amplified speaker). I've seen youtube videos which open up the sonos and simply directly connect to the Play 5 speakers; but this would then need an amp.

I'd like to keep the using the Play 5 speaker and its internal amp, so would only need a line-in or equivalent input.

Any advice/howtos?
