no as far as i know its not possible... well hmm, i guess if you have sonicstage installed ir wouldnt be a prob. if you open the hd5 as a storage device, you will clearly see that the files are stored in some sort of proprietary format.

what you CAN do (which ive done) is take the hd5 (or hd3 i guess) to a friends house, and transfer all the music you want onto the player (without any drivers disk). then- you have to plug it into your comp, tranfer all the songs from the hd5 to your comp...import them into sonicstage, then send em back to the player. pain in the ass huh? fortunately usb2 speed makes this a little less painfull.

I know for sure that you can NOT transfere from HD5 to comp in Sonic Stage, have tried and failed. However, I will now explore the possabilty of treating it as a removable disk drive.

After a brief snuffle about, have found that music files are displayable in explorer but in some weird order with name, which makes everything dandy. Not sure wether the online database (gracenote i think) which holds the track info which is used when a cd is put in and imported would recognise the file and retrieve the track name etc about it. Worth a try some time.

    Just a thought...

    1) plug in the device
    2) using Windows explorer, drag n drop the files from your device to a new folder on your pc
    3) tell SS to "import" the files from that new folder into your library.

Would that work or would SS say that they are protected files etc ???
