I believe there's a demo up on the marketplace now, so it might be worth checking out

It looks to be getting mixed reviews according to metacritic.

As for it being kid friendly normally I would say all Sonic games are but this game has Sonic changing into a Werehog and maybe a bit darker. Might be worth checking out sites like What They Play for some more info.

As mentioned above the demo is up on Xbox Live so it might be worth checking it out.

Demo is awful, well it looks good but the controls just spoil the game. Im all for changing with the times but they should have left the poor little fella at sonic 3 on the Mega Drive/Genesis

I've played it (though since removed it from my history as didn't get any cheevs!), and while the fast-paced Sonic sections are great, the slower paced Werehog sections are terrible. They're slow, boring, repetitive (go to a section, clear the baddies, move a box to get to a new section, repeat), and the "fighting" is terrible. It's very much a case of getting through the bad bits (3/4 of the game) to get to the really good speedy bits (1/4 of the game, that are over far too quickly).

And don't even start me on the "invesigative" parts of the game. Inbetween the day (Sonic) levels, and night (Werehog) levels you have to try and piece together the story by talking to residents in each of the towns. This amounts to going up to residents, pressing Y, and listening to what they have to say. You do this about 20 times, while enduring Sonic's annoying voice along with his equalling stupid sidekick "Chip".

Why oh why the devs bothered with the Werehog sections is beyond me, and the story-telling sections are equally dire. They should've just stuck with what actually works, and for the rare times you get to enjoy them, the speedy sections really are good fun. But they're far too seldom for my liking, and I didn't have the patience to endure the nonsense before and after..

    Shoulda woulda coulda been good..

Got it on launch and it is definetly worth getting at that price. The Sonic stages are incredibly fast but you still feel in control and environments are very colourful and varied. In Werehog levels it can get a tad repetitive with fighting but the different ideas for each level make it worth it.

Not a review but some comments on when I had a preview at SEGA.

I definetly enjoyed it a lot and would still be if I didnt have to send it back to GAME for a replacement as disk was faulty.

This game actually gave me motion sickness, not the speedy parts, but the platforming Werehog levels were horrendous in terms of camera blurring and panning.

Played the demo. Better than expected, but still deleted after one try.

The worst game ive ever had the misfortune of playing... period!
the fast daylight levels arent too bad at all but the werehog ones...
    what A JOKE!
honestly i tried so bloody hard to kill the baddie on the first level after an half hour chore to get there, and everytime i had his power down... it bl##dy went back up!

so annoyed i wasted time renting this game for free from a dvd rental site.
damn just had to write that down im just so annoyed!

    anyway merry christmas

It's not that bad. It's, ironically, a tad slow paced for a Sonic game.

Guys, you really tried this 3D malarky, and it just doesn't work for Sonic. Compare Mario World to Mario 64, gameplay and fun-wise, and it works. Compared Sonic 3 to Sonic 360, and it's no comparison, Sonic 3 wins hands down. Please remake Sonic's 1 to 3 plus S+Knuckles, in 2D with gorgeous graphics and I will buy it! Twice!

Yep, completely with you mate. The old-school side-scrolling Sonic levels are great, but the Werehog levels are absolutely shocking. Also, has anyone been onto the island filled with tribal blokes? It's sooo boring having to go up to people to piece together the story - couldn't be ar$ed quite frankly! When did we ever have to do that kind of nonsense in previous Sonic games?

For a development team called Sonic, they seem to have very little idea of what made the original games fun! :(
