Hi all. I've just bought a brand new Sony 42W653A and have an issue. You might not believe this but there is something moving under the screen. At first I thought it were something on the game I were playing but I pulled up the I guide on the TV to check and it is still there. It's about 3mm long and looks to be turning and moving around the screen. It looks like a small insect of some kind has got under the screen.

I really don't want stuff living under my screen so should I return it? Bit of an odd one this I know. At first I thought I might be seeing things so I got my girlfriend to look too and yep she can see it! I watched it for a couple of minutes and it is definitely moving around. It started in top left and had been over to the middle and then back over to the left. Any advice? Thanks.

Insects getting inside a tv is more common thank you think! I don't think returning the set would solve the problem.

Leave it alone. Definitely don't go prodding it. You could crush it and then it will be there forever.
With luck it will crawl away from the visible area and escape or die. The one in my laptop did.

So any idea as to how it got there? Will it be sealed inside or will it have just got in through the speaker or something? Thanks.

Best guess, it landed on the screen and, attracted by the heat and light of the LEDs, crawled through a gap between bezel and outer glass.
I doubt it has been there long. There is no food or water back there. I can't imagine it surviving for more than a day, two at the most.

We all wanted a good summer and look what happens.:laugh:

Haha tell me about it. So you think it has just got in recently? I only got the tele today. I thought it might be some sort of Japanese ninja bug that got in during manufacturing haha.

Oh! I didn't realise it was brand new. Don't mess about then. If it's not gone in the morning, ask for a replacement.

Yep, just got it a few hours ago. I did check the screen for any dead pixels and what have you when I first turned it on but didn't see anything and then noticed the bug a few hours later so dunno if it were there before but was in hiding or if it has got in recently. Ill check on him in the morning then lol.

Just had a quick look now actually. It seems to have stopped moving, could have died by the looks of it. It's in a noticeable place aswell. So they is something worth taking it back to the shop for?

Yes. If it doesn't disappear, take it back.

I'd be interested to hear how you get on returning your set. From your description it sounds like a thunder fly / thrip. Very common in the summer. The little ones that get in picture frames. I've had them in nearly a my sets. Hate the things.
