You are not going to get very far with that budget, C2D processors start from over £100/$140!!!

As has already been said I think you'll struggle on that budget (though I don't know what prices are like in India) - but I think the AMD route would be cheaper than Intel.

    It depends on your budget.

    1)

If you want all out power get Intel core 2 as those cpus are the quickest you can buy, 99% of software is written on intel machines so you'll get the best performance for your money.

If your not worried about performance and want some which works ok get an AMD x2 dual core.

    2)
You can go on ebay and get decent 2nd hand cpus for less than new ones.

It all depends on what speed you want.

With i7 coming out 2nd hand 1 year old intel cpus are cheap, things like E6600, Q6600, Q6700 are still great cpus and will handle what ever you throw at them and these guys are still faster than their AMD versions.

The Q6600 can out run the latest AMD Phenom 2 so buying an older cpu doesn't mean you're buying rubbish.
