I built my first home cinema set up about 3 years ago. I have mission 771e speakers on the front, an m7c2 centre and mission 700s on the back. Other gear is a paradigm PS1000 and a yammy 630SE. I saw a pair of ex display mission 781 speakers on sale for £130. Unfortunately I haven't kept my hifi knowledge up-to-date since my initial research. They seem like good speakers, but I wanted a second opinion on weather or not these are good for the money. I've always felt the 771e speakers don't have enough low end grunt, although they do have a good clear sound. Do you think the 781s would be a good choice for a quick and easy upgrade? The same place also has the 78c centre for £100....worth while?

    Any comments appreciated...

    Cheers.

if they have stock of them i would be surprised, they are notorious for advertising stock they dont have and have been prosecuted more than once.If you can get the missions for £130 them get them they are good speakers

 Not in stock, a la Richersounds. Tried fairly hard to sell me a new pair at £180. Although if it had been Richersounds they would have said "Missions are made in Malaysia, they're not very good. Here's a lovely pair of Eltax that are much better"

Pity, I bought my amp from them and received excellent service and price.

Mmmm...makes you think twice about bothering to phone in the first place.

What are they expecting you to do?

"I'm sorry sir, I have none of those quality speakers in stock at the moment...can I interest you in this overpriced pile of kak?"

I was in the area last Saturday and so popped in to Hyperfi.

They have black and mahogany 782's, black 78c's, beech 780's and beech 78ds. Good luck with the advertised prices though. Saying that, if they happen to have what you want in stock the prices are reasonable, just not what they've advertised.

Well i picked up the following from Hyperfi
    1) Mission 781's-£ 199
    2) Mission 78C and 78DS- £300

And i picked up a MS10 sub from Qed for 160 quid.

I managed to set everything up over the weekend and all i can say is Awesome. Music has never sounded so great. Watching The Eagles Hell Freezes over or Pink Flyod's pulse...was absolutely mindblowing.

Movies are great with sound flying all over......

Am using a Yamaha1500 to drive the setup.

I also have purchased some missions from hyperfi.
    I went for the 780 lr 78c 78ds.
I tried the 781 but there a bit wide.
mj acoustic ref 100 for the low stuff.
    Very impressed with the sound.
My previous set up sounded a bit thin but this set really has depth to it. :smashin:
    Well worth the money IMO

Did you order over the phone or from the store itself?

Interestingly mission still have the 78 series as the current ones while the fairly recent m30 have been replaced by the 30i. Just shows you how good a speakers the range must be.

I bought a set of mission 783s and a 78C from hyperfi over the summer. They were new and definitely appeared unused. I know they can be very cheeky, so I checked everything.

They're very good speakers, and are definitely worth the knockdown prices that places seem to be selling them for right now.
