Sold my Wii !

Well, preordered months ago, got one on release, played Zelda, Play and Sports for 2 weeks, got bored. So, I've sold it to someone for his kids in the hope that they'll get more enjoyment out of it.

Might get another next year sometime when Mario and Mariokart come out and if they turn out to be any good, but until then, I don't rate it. Launch titles were disappointing in my opinion :(

Good for you. Did you manage to finish Zelda in such a short period of time?
On the release titles you are right with few exceptions: Rayman, Wii Sports and Zelda.

No, I didn't finish it. I don't really have the patience for games like that where you need to play for a good few hours at a time, so I lost interest quickly. I only got it because I thought it looked the best of the bunch (Red Steel has its moments, but is, in general, crud, I feel). In fact, Zelda is the same as the cube version with the remote action tagged on the top I think at the last minute, so there is not much there to stretch the extra functionality of the Wii I would say.

A man from my own heart, I sold mine after 2 days. I just couldn't get the whole hype.

It certainly was (IMO) less fun than the 360. The control system is a novelty, which will quickly wear off when you have to play everygame like it.

It reminds me of the MS FreeStyle Pro joypad that used to be about. Sounds fun, Good in theory - crap implementation.

The Wii, just didnt captivate me... I've moved on, got over it etc... Looking for a new toy though, not sure what to look at.

Exactly - the novelty wore off very quickly with me as well (day 1 in fact). I might have had some more fun if there was, for example, a 1:1 mapping between what I did with the remote, and what a character does with their sword (or whatever) - maybe this will come. I think that would have only held my interest for a little longer though, and I still would have ended up getting shot of it.

I'll be playing gears of war some more this xmas, and waiting for a PS3 I think. Although tempting to get a US/JP one, I'll attempt to wait until its released in the UK !

There seems to be a small minority of people who rejected the wii because of controls/graphics, the vast majority seem to love it.

Personally I love the controls but won't be getting my own wii becasue of cost/lack of games right now.

Graphics aren't a problem for me, its more about gameplay, and the games just didn't do it for me. Like I said, there may be some good stuff in 6 months or a year, and I'll keep an open mind, but I'm pretty disappointed with it.

I think waiting is a good idea. I can definitely live without Zelda and red Steel !

Fair enough if its not for you then i agree your right to get rid of it! But its a bit harsh to say its a crap implementation of it! So far so good imo for the controller. I guess some people just cant accept or dont want to accept change!

I think he meant that it reminds him of something which had crap implementation (i.e. the MS controller), not that it has it per se.

I, however, think that it has been badly implemented on the games so far. Zelda remote implementation was an afterthought, and there is no 1:1 mapping yet on remote movement with respect to gameplay moves, so, probably, yes, it has been implemented badly thus far imo. Sure it will improve.

Fair enough but lets be honest the console has been out for 2 weeks!
I certainly would complain 6-12 mths down the road if improvements hadnt been made but certainly not after 1 day, 1 week, 1 mth etc!

I dont see how people can say that the remote implementation for zelda was an afterthought. The game handles great and i find it more fun swinging the remote to use my sword and the aiming with the bow etc adds more immersion to the game. Beats just tapping away at a button constantly!

To be fair though i had complaints about the 360 when i got that on launch. Sure a couple of games were good but all they were was xbox games in HD!
I accepted this though as i appreciate that you never see the best they have to offer when first released so i bided my time and it took a further 10mths (IMO) for some original quality titles to finally come out for the 360. If the same happens again with the wii then so be it! The advantage i and others will have this time is the fact that they can game on there 360 if the wii goes through a lean spell early next year. Thats if you own both of course!

Yes, I broadly agree with that. Only thing I would add is that, although its only been out for 2 weeks, how long did the developers have before release to produce the launch titles. Probably not as long as they would have wanted I'm sure, but perhaps long enough before to have made a bit more of the control system? Maybe.

I'll look again in 6 months and see whats about, and reconsider then. Until then , as you say, there is Gears of War etc, and some other goodies in the new year for the 360.

Yeh well i cant argue with that decision mate. Whats appealing for some isnt always the case for others so in another 6 mths time it would be good to look over the situation again and see what the score is!
Early next year its lost planet for the 360 for me!! Cant wait for that game! Sadly already hammered cod3 and gow and completed them both so LP will do me fine, rotating between that and zelda on the wii for my single player fix! Gaming heaven!

I think dev's have had them for a while, but not the proper wii dev hardware. Ubisoft started developing on gamecube's with wii remotes. And got Wii dev unit's around summer time. Launch games with a normal controller are normally rubbish though, let alone with a control system they've never used before.

But if you don't think the system is for you fair enough mate. But I've been having great fun the last couple of weeks :)

Your selective quotation of my post implies that I had something largely negative to say, when in fact I didn't - and it renders me in a bad light. I've enabled a dad to make his two young lads very happy this Christmas by selling my Wii at less than cost to them, and all because I wasn't happy with it.

I will very much enjoy my 360, and have been. But I will probably also enjoy a Wii as well later next year when some better games come out.

btw -- :hiya: = Hiya, which is not the sarcastic "ta ta" I think you had in mind ;)

Probably because he is perfectly entitled to post in any forum regardless of whether he owns, or owned, a specific piece of equipment or not. In fact, having owned one makes you more inclined to check a certain forum occasionally to see what the situation is with regards games and issues with the equipment etc I would say

No - is that not allowed either ?

Didnt say it wasnt. Just asking since you seem quite quick to respond to something that wasnt in anyway made towards yourself. You started the thread with a clear intention of getting a reaction, which when you recieve it are very happy to respond to. Even if your not directly questioned.

Back to your bridge.

Not after a reaction - simply expounding my opinion, which is, after all, the point of forums.

I don't understand "back to your bridge", but will assume thats its a silly insult of some kind.
