Hey everyone, I'm gathering some info in preparation for my new home cinema / gaming room.

I am looking for some information on the possibilities of automatically detecting the black bars associated with different aspect ratios than my 16:9 screen, in order to have my motorised masking system react and adjust as soon as it senses the black bars.

I know it's a long shot and quite extravagant but it may be quite workable as all of my content is always displayed via my gaming PC, all media, all games etc so a windows based utility could be used to send a signal to a USB IR controller.

Does anyone know of monitoring software that can be used to try this?
Is there anyone with programming knowledge that could write a utility to signal when a certain percentage of the screen is displaying a certain shade (or darker) output?

Thanks for any input, please don't tell me it's a crazy idea, already know that :)
