I recently softmodded my xbox and I get 480p from the dashboard and halo2 etc. but San Andreas is still only 480i. Anyone know why this refuses to display prog scan? My xbox is the UK version, as is my copy of SA.

    Cheers

I'm not sure at all but many gmaes simply don't have a 480p mode and perhaps this is one of them. Check www.hdtvarcade.com for a list of games that support prog. scan.

UK(pal) release of GTA:SA is 480i only. There are a couple of other anomalies out there, but they are few and far between

Yeah, thought that might be the problem. SA is advertised as 480p, but I guess that only applies to the NTSC version. WHY MICROSOFT WHY???

I don't think you should be blaming MS as they weren't responsible for developing and publishing the game. If you want to blame some then blame Rockstar and Take 2.

Point taken, but my outburst was referring to the lack of HD output on PAL consoles. If that decision wasn't taken in the first place then everything would be so much easier. Just can't understand why they did it...

That's perfectly understandable and if I didn't own an American machine I would feel the same way as you and many others. I too don't understand the rationale behind disabling something that was already a function of the machine. There can't have been any cost saving. It's does seem quite silly and ridiculous. At least MS have seen the error of their ways and included HD output as standard on the 360 in all regions.

..... there were no standards for PAL progressive before M$ launched the xbox in the UK, let alone TV's which supported it, and they probably didn't want to have to support ntsc 480p like Sony did on PS2 (e.g. SoulCaliburII)

Why does pal SA not do 480p on a modded xbox?
Developers choice I'd say - un-modded PAL xboxes CANNOT do this mode, so if you have this mode enabled then you HAVE to be on a modded machine....

If you want to play it in 480p then buy the US disc...
