*sob* My Humax Fox T2 has drowned.

In the last storm I noticed a small puddle under the aerial connection into my HDR Fox T2. Lifting the T2, there was quite a significant puddle of water, added to by the water pouring out of the T2! :( NO idea how long that was going on for.

It's not quite a year old, and though I have Richer Sound's 5 year supercare, reading the guarantee, I don't think there's much hope of repair through that..... well, it's probably badly corroded inside so really don't think thats repairable anyway :(

So sad.

Can still watch what was recorded, so will need to either watch/copy off.
Can't get a tv signal on it (just got the tv aerials & cables redone today), so no future recording.

So... what do you think. Could I put its hard drive into my foxsat (T2 Hard drive is 1TB, Foxsat is 350Gb).

*wanders off to check prices for a new T2*

Assuming you mean HDR FOX T2 (HD FOX T2 doesn't have a hard disc)

Yes, you may have to format it on a PC first before the Foxsat will set up the drive. You can use a usb caddy to view the existing recordings on the 320TB drive if you don't want to copy them onto the 1TB drive.

Ta grahamlthompson. That is good to know.

BTW, just from my brief looking, the 1TB is still the largest Humax HDR T2?
Are there any other HDRs that are good competitors to humax?

(I'll go have a look through the rest of the threads and see what people are saying, though I've a collection of humax HDR & foxsats, so sort of nice to keep the same set of peripherals for consistency.....)

Make sure you get your aerial downlead replaced too.

Problems of this nature usually mean that the cable insulation has been compromised at some point in the cable and the water runs down inside it.... or is 'sucked ' along it by capillary action.

Hi,

Apart from what has been said, which is all good info . . .

You could carefully remove the Warranty Seal using the hair-dryer +scalpel method. Then dry out the machine thoroughly and check for any signs of water damage - If you cannot see any (or can remove any visible signs !!!) then you may well get away with reassembling and restoring the seal, then using the Richer Sound Warranty.

May be worth a try ?

I got the aerial cable to that Humax/tv completely replaced - it was probably near 20 years old anyway and was mostly outside (having been put in way after the house was built - who'd ever have thought we'd need a tv in the kitchen!).

The other cables to the other TVs were all tidied up as well and the signal strength on each connection measured - new aerials put up (got a CAI registered aerial installer. Am currently very impressed with him; time spent in horrible weather/what he did/cost; so he will be on my 'favourite' workpeople list).

I'll have a careful look inside the Humax at some point. It should be pretty much dried out by now - length of time it's been since puddle being found and being used to watch recorded stuff. It must be the aerial connection port and subsequent electronics that isn't working now... *shrug*

I lost a Philips OnDigital box that way. The numpties that installed the aerial didn't secure the balun/cable connector cover properly. It came off at some point and the aerial downlead filled with water. I only noticed it when the box suddenly stopped working. Checking the connections I pulled the aerial lead from the box and a fine jet of water directed itself to the top part of the case, where the ventilation holes were. I managed to pull the power just as the box went 'pop'. I tried drying the box out but it looked like the water had killed the tuners, so OnDigital supplied a replacement. Needless to say, I wasn't that forthcoming regarding why the box might have failed .....
