Anyway cant wait for june 14th, Anamophic widescreen & the Mono soundtrack, a dream come true

Think I'll wait for the reviews first, but if the full length doc from the Laser Disc set is on there this time I may well give in and double dip.

Never bought the 25th as you could see see this one coming from a mile off, especially with the 25th being in limited supply for ages. Won't be listening to the original mono track though, i'm no purist so it's dts for me.

I haven't got this film and I held off buying the 25th anniversary edition thinking this release might be coming soon, so yes I'm going to buy this some time in the future.

i've got the 25th anniversary edition, and it's got a lot of special features as it is, so i don't think i'll bother getting the new one. i can't imagine dts sound will be that much of an improvement over dd5.1 seeing as how the source was mono.

I'll get this if it has the full documentary. Makes a change from upgrading my Bond films.

The R1 Jaws 25th was available as either DD or DTS IIRC (I've got the DTS ver). I THINK it was only R2 as DD.

I have both R1 DD 5.1 & DTS 5.1 versions and there is very little between them, the DTS is a little tighter on bass thats about it.
However Jaws isn't Jaws without the Mono sound track.
I suppose i could have lived with a DD,DTS soundtrack if only they hadn't ar$$ed around with the sound effects.

Can I just ask why does everyone keep going on about the mono soundtrack, why would I want to listen to this over the 5.1? I’m not being funny I’d just like to know?

Beats me too - would they rather the picture be left in it's original damaged condition too?

The remixed 5.1 had a lot of new foley work that sounds, quite frankly, sh**e. I've never heard the Orca taken apart in such a weedy fashion as it is on the remix. It sounds like someone's tossing sprats against the window rather than the boat being ripped apart by a 25 foot great white shark... all 3 tons of him.

The mono soundtrack didn't win an Oscar for no reason.
I'm glad it's finally there as an option for those who want it.

Fair enough mate – I don’t have this disk so didn’t realise that it was poorly done. As this is a new disk, do you think they would have sorted the 5.1 mix?

Spielberg didn't just "upgrade" the soundtrack to 5.1 from mono (and there is the question of cinematic integrity here - I'd like to hear the film as it was originally meant to sound, not some potentially horrid "home theatre" remix whose validity might be questionable anyway because the audio stems required to make a decent surround track aren't available for older films, you just get "cut out" sound effects forced through rear channels) he remixed it with new sound FX (a la the above replaced whalesong) so it's not quite the same film I remember loving as a kid, which annoys me...

EDIT: I'm glad to see there are discerning souls who agree with me :)

That surely depends on how the remix is done, and by whom? It may well be the case that a remixed soundtrack is actually more true to what the director and sound engineers originally wanted the film to sound like, but were unable to produce at that point as a result of (e.g.) budgetary or technical limitations.

That same argument could be applied to special FX etc (and plenty of people have hinted about CGIing the shark in Jaws)... where do you stop?

I can't stand people going back and messing about with what was (ostensibly) fine in the first place: Spielberg already did that with ET and I hated the results (at least he had the good sense to make the unaltered, original version available on dvd, however limited).

Case in point: Lucas and THX 1138 (I'm not even going to touch Star Wars).

Meh. Whatever. I'll be happy if the original mono is exactly that.

Oh no, this was a hot toppic on the Jaws Forums, i hope to god they never touch the effects in anyway, NEVER.

At least when i get this DVD with the Mono sound track i can lock myself away with the peace of mind that i own Jaws effects untouched, no crazy deleted scenes put in here and there, AND the Mono soundtrack back where it belongs, THANK GOD.

I was wondering that, although i think i will get the R1 version anyway.

Hope its not a case of like the 21st Ann Ed, where it was only out in the US. We (The Uk) did get a Vhs release, however it was just the bare bones Widescreen version with no extras.

The US got a Signature collection LD (the one i bought) and a Vhs double pack loaded with extras.

    We shall see.

Personally I prefered the re-edited ET, never worked with me that FBI agents would be running about with guns after little kids
