OK, so you have 400 DVD's, most of which you you'll never watch again. But which one is your particular favourite? Which one makes you smile every time you pick it up? Have you got any disks that you sometimes take of the shelf just to hold and look at? IMO, DVD is not as collectable as laserdisc - some of the packaging on those were real works of art. BUT, I do believe DVD is catching up...becoming more collectable every month.

So, what is your favourite? Is it a box set? Single Disc? The first disc you ever brought? Believe it or not, mine is the Vista 4 disc Pearl Harbour - I often wonder how such a poor film can be packaged inside such a nice box!!

I too have the 4discer and I always show people the set when they look at my collection.

My most watched film however has to be galaxy quest and Contact - not my most favourite films but I do like watching them.

No contest, the extended edition of FOTR. Brilliantly packaged, R1 that is, amazing extras and one of the best films to be made in the last 5 years. The best thing is the same treatment will be given to TTT and ROTK so plenty to look forward too in the coming years.

Agreed. I lent it to a mate once and after awhile I started to feel anxious it was gone, kept phoning him up to ask when "my precious" was coming back! :D

My favourite(s) have to be the E.T. Limited Edition Gift Set or maybe the Evil Dead II Limited Tin Edition.

Also has to be FOTR - extended edition, for the combination of content, and the aesthetics of the packaging (R1 that is!).

Special mention goes to my Wooden box limited edition Wicker Man, which I love and is displayed on a separate shelf from the rest of my DVDs because it looks (IMO) pretty cool .

Do you have the original or the revamped R1 version? There's no extra's but the picture is to die for and the aodio is DD 5.1 rather than Dolby Surround.....

I think we are starting to go off topic a bit here. Though I agree, SPR does have an outstanding first 20 mins, that's it. Bog standard packaging, mediocre extra's, that's it. What I'm getting at here is what disc really takes your breath away JUST BY IT'S PRESENCE ON YOUR SHELF? Looks, packaging, extra's.
With the SPR thing, I think in it's day it was the best sounding disc around, but sound mixing has come so far these days, there are a lot of discs now that blow it away. We Were Soldiers and Behind Enemy Lines spring to mind. Both brilliant sounding, but very average packages.....IYSWIM.:lesson: :smashin:

Well I am glad to see that Army Bloke is as big a DVD Geek as me! :smashin:

As mentioned Pearl Harbor is a definite favourite, as are the other 'Vista Series' discs, especially Tombestone ;)

Also agree about B.O.B. & LOTR: FOTR

The Godfather Trilogy is another great package.

Fight Club & Se7en (R1) were my early favourites.

The Buffy & Angel Region Two dvds are pretty special too.

    Others:

The Mummy & The Mummy Returns 4 Disc Ultimate Edition Box Set (R2)

    Robocop Trilogy (R2)

    Moulin Rouge Digipack (R2)

Raging Bull 20th Anniversary Digipack (R2)

    Memento (R1) special edition

    Brazil Criterion

    Die Hard Trilogy

TransFormers Complete Original Series Deluxe Edition  :D

Biggest disappointment has to be the packaging of Star Wars eps. 1 & 2 (and anything from Warner Bros.)

Most anticipated = Blade Runner spec ed.

Absolute Favourite has to be Fellowship of the Ring though - cannot wait until it has parts II & III sitting next to it!

There, that about covers it! :zonked:

Absolutly true mate. Trouble is, I didn't realise it until yesterday when I sat down with all my DVD's in front of me and was putting them into DVDProfiler. Have to agree about Tombstone as well - things like the map you get just set them apart from the rest for me....:smashin:

I feel I 'm over my packaging/dual-language obsessive stage but Sixth Sense vista series is cracking... you get a see through plastic envelope addressed to to M Night Shylaman with a quality printed storyboard section on heavy rippled card, absolutely no point to it but it is a quality touch and the digipack is a beaut too!
other than that I couldn't give a monkey's whether it comes paper bag as long as the disc is protected and the film is a corker!

For me, it's "Amelie" - always gives me a warm happy feeling when I see it snuggling contentedly between "Almost Famous" & "American Beauty".

However ... my smile is usually replaced by a snarl when I come to "Jean de Florette" - I bought it 'cause it was meant to be "best foreign film ever", but the ending makes me sick !

On the subject of collections (mine's not yet up to 400, alas), where does everyone file films with ... first names as well as surnames? Example - "Amelie" is actually "Le fabulieux destin d'Amelie Poulain", & "Jimmy Grimble" is "There's Only One Jimmy Grimble" - should they go under their full or short names?
