So what's the case with Pioneer and Sky HD at the moment?

Hi,

In the past I have visited these forums quite reguarly, and know about the problem with Sky HD in conjunction with Pioneer plasmas (and some other makes).

So recently I got my new Pioneer, DVD player et al. installed in my living room. I've had all the wires channelled in and plastered over so no wires are on show; at the moment I'm using my old Sky box, but I have two satellite links, optical and HDMI cables installed (all waiting to be connected tothe Sky HD box).
Today I received a phone call from the company which were going to supply my Sky HD box that they have one in stock, but I'm not sure whether to accept yet, due to the fact that I'll have to run it through HDMI, because I haven't got component cables installed in the wall, and if I use component the cables will have to be on show untill Pioneer/Sky fix the error.

What is the situation with the HDMI/HDCP errors at the moment? Has the problem been resolved yet? What would other people do in this situation, just use component as a temporary measure?

Thanks for any advice.

There are numerous thread on this forum about the subject but I think this one sums up the latest position best

Yes - and no one seems any closer to resolving it or even diagnosing where the fault lies (SkyHD box or Pioneer Media Box).

The recommendation from both Pioneer and Sky remains to use component rather than HDMI.

Pioneer have set up a blog to assist in tracing the problem.

Pioneer have also agreed to sort out any damaged media boxes as a goodwill gesture until it is resolved, regardless of whether or not the set is in warranty. Can't ask much more from them on the Customer Service front.

Will the problem still occur if I connect the HDMI cable from the Sky HD box through a HDMI switcher, then connect it to the Pioneer, or shall I just play it safe and use component?

Thanks

I'm not sure anyone can answer that, probably including Pioneer and Sky!

I had no problems with SkyHD -> HDMI -> Amp -> HDMI -> Pioneer for a month or so but eventually decided to play safe and use component.
