So what sound system's have you got in your cars?

    Ive got...

    Kenwood mask head unit.
    Alpine MRVF540 V12 4ch. Running a pair of
Vibe 6*9's in parcel shelf. (and some components up front soon!)
Alpine MRDM500-Digital mono block. Running a
Magnat XTC 15'' sub in boot!

I think it sounds ok, deffinatly need some components up front tho as its all in the back, then i can turn the 6*9's down a bit as there flat out trying to keep up with the sub :D Which rocks. :)

Infinity Kappa 4" component set (the tweeters are stunning)
Pioneer 8" 3-ways in a custom made shelf.

    i used to have

    Alpine 7944
    2 Rockford punch 60ix's
    2 Rockford punch 1100a2's
Diamond 6½ inch front componants running off the 60's
2 kicker round solobaric 15's running off the 1100's

i got it all for pennies too, as i used to work in a car audio shop installing top systems. shame i sold it all really heh.

if anyone has 1 or more round solobaric kicker subs, id be very interested in buy them, as they were by far the best 15's i ever did hear

The amp is a 5 channel model, but i've got some amps lying in the loft if needed ( or if anyone browsing the thread wants a cheap amp ;) ) .
Remember there are various configurations to wire the voice coils anyway.

sorry if you get offended but I have to say this,

you should always concentrate on the front of your car before the rear. And the Vibe 6*9 speakers have got some issues with the quality of construction. Although I have not experienced this first hand.

    And a 15" sub ! what can I say.......
    although I would have chosen a couple of 10's or a 12".

I feel 15" subs tend to vibrate your cars exteriour. 12" give you nice tight bass with good slam. although some 15" do this, but at a price. (eg kicker, but can you raelly call that a 15"? its surface area must be slightly larger than a 12")

Feel free to correct me if im wrong,

ps, what crossover freq. are you 6*9's. They should be coping well. Also, due to your 15" sub, there will be alot of air moving around in your boot, so you 6*9s will move back and forth. And I have seen many damaged speakers....

My round kicker solobaric was more 14½" and was tighter than almost all the 12's i ever heard.. 10's were tighter but was totolly outclassed by my 15's slam.

i must buy me another 15 solobaric.. i love these subs :D alas they dont make them anymore :(

1995 BRG Mini Cooper wiv lots of chrome!

Old Kenwood Single disc head unit in wooden dash
2 x Standard Rover 7 inch coaxials in custom pods in front
2 x Knackered (make not recognised) 6*9s in custom bracket under rear seat
Standard Rover coaxials on parcel shelf.
Rally (I think) 520 (I think) watt amp "slung" (at the mo) in boot running the 6 x 9s.

When I've got the money gonna replace all the speakers and add 10" sub in box in boot running from the Rally amp.

    Just thinking,

Wounder If x2 10" for pure bass tightness. crossover at about 80Hz to 35/30Hz

and x1 mighty 15/18" ultra low notes, like >30Hz

This would shorly be the best set up.....if you have a HUGE boot, like a 4x4.

and have about 3 Rockford Fosgate X7 mono(1300@2ohms) powering each sub

    That would deliver AMAZING bass.....

I wounder how it would compare to Uncle Erics HGS18....

    Car 1995 Mini Cooper

Kenwood 6060 CD head unit (in Walnut dash)
Rockford Fosgate Punch 60x2 Amp (Mounted in boot)

    Rear Shelf
Rockford Fosgate Audiophile 6 1/2 Components
    Rockford Punch 10" sub

    Doors
Kenwood 4" 2ways (in metro door pockets)
(to be replaced by 5" Infinity components as soon as I finish the door builds)

Would probably better with the Rockford components up front, but they'd take up too much legroom.

First thing I did when my import BMW 330 Convertible turned up in October was have the rather sad excuse for a stereo removed (I still don't understand the logic of how a car that comes with gadgets as daft as photo-sensitive headlights and rain-sensitive wipers has a tape deck fitted as standard).

Stages one and two of the replacement fit are complete:

    Stage One
Alpine 7998 head unit - an awesome piece of kit, and I still haven't finished playing with all the settings

Genesis Profile 4 amp driving Genesis fronts (can't remember the model but they cost about £250) and Genesis rear tweeters (the rear mids can't be easily replaced because they sit flush against the wheel arches, and no replacement mids with any depth will fit)

    Stage Two
Genesis Sub amp driving a JL Audio 8" sub fitted in the space behind the rear centre cushion (it's hollow and the cushion pops out, as it's meant to allow skis to be carried). The sub is there purely as a 'filler' - the fronts give virtually no bass (the doors are sealed rather than hollow) and I wanted a fuller sound, but not the ear-bleeding bass that some people go for. Plus I didn't want to lose any boot space.

The final bit of the fit (happening soon) is the hands-free kit that allows my Nokia phone to 'talk' to the head unit, allowing me to access my phone book and menus and make calls from the head unit.

Did I fit this myself? Did I hell. The install wasn't cheap, but it's very discreet, and a top bit of workmanship.

    Hi James

Nice setup by the sounds of it and a nice car on top.
Made me chuckle when you mentioned its got a space to stick some skiis through :) and that they give you that plus the other luxuries without a CD h/u.
I'm after pretty much the same minimal/discreet kit to keep space in the boot etc but i'm having a flippin hard time trying to get my missus to understand the need for new stereo equipment :)
I can probably change the oe cd player (not bad but no amp connection) as we have an old but trusty Kenwood CD h/u.
Also I can maybe get away with some nice components up front as they will hopefully sit nicely in the original speaker placements without any mods but these will be wasted without an amp in my opinion. The trouble starts here in that an amp requires a place to put it and I don't want to start bolting it in the car when I want to quickly remove all these things without leaving holes everywhere. A sub would be nice but again even though the Stealth boxes are nice and out of the way it still takes up boot space which the missus will most likely object too.
As she owns the car with me she has just as much say as I do.

I wouldn't mind a smaller sub say 8" or even 6" i've been told are still punchy but just don't go really low - understandable really. If I could find a spot in the car for these things it would be great.
