So we have a rubbish bag thief!!

For the past 2 weeks, it seems that someone has taken a fancy to our rubbish bags, we have had approx 7 stolen over this period. These bags do not contain any documents that would give a thief any clues to our personal information, they mostly contain binned food and ****** nappy's.

Anyone care to shed some light on why someone has taken a fancy to rubbish?? I honestly cannot ever remember anyone mentioning the same happening to them.

Were the thieves driving a huge yellow lorry and turn up in the early hours of the morning? ;)

Being serious for a second, identity theft is big business and a lot of people do just throw paperwork out with their personal details on. It's not uncommon for rubbish to be stolen for this reason. Odd, disgusting, but not uncommon.

I cannot work out when it is happening, we keep the councils plastic wheely bin at the side of our house (you have to enter through the gate and we have security lighting) I am going to install a temporary CCTV in the morning, more than anything, I want to see the measures the rubbish thief goes through to steal them.

It could be an aminal (or more than one) They have to continually adapt to our environment, which inludes plastic wheely bins.

:) Well, the only animal capable of performing this theft would be a brown bear as these bins are very deep, although we have woodland nearby, the chances are slim to be honest :D

Fox on stilts......... possible I guess... Kids..... very unlikely. The CCTV is now setup it is discrete and unnoticeable, even from directly below, it is triggered by the security light so if someone/something has plans to steal further bags, they will be caught in the act. I will post when/if I have some footage. :smashin:

There have been numerous incidents of people from a certain Eastern European country that I won't name but starts with rom and ends with ania, going through rubbish bags regularly.

I have even had the misfortune to find them in skips at the rear of the supermarket in flip flops loading out of date cream in to a pram.

Though I'm sure the activity is not exclusive to persons from this country it is rather annoying, I've even caught someone trying to fish clothes out of a charity skip.

Contact your local neighbourhood policing team and/or the council.

We once lived somewhere where we became aware of children out early in the morning (6-7am) on bikes when it was 'bin day'. To cut a short story shorter still, they were the offspring of local 'travellers' who were ferreting around for the kind of documentary information which could only logically be used for ID Thefting. We all twigged what had been occurring when someone caught them turning a bin over and scarpering when Oi'd (with a handful of old bank statements). Never saw them again.

this use to be common around our parts. Often you'd go to sainsburys and the recycling area would be covered in clothes where they'd rumaged through them. They also had to start chaining up the pound trolleys as they worked out how to unlock a line of them and wheel them in the back of a lorry at night

yes we have a few Roma Slovak Gypsies that live near us that do the same thing i have caught them on numerous occasions although to be fair i have also left bulky items like broken chairs, TV's etc that they have also taken and so have saved me being charged by the council to collect.

Every cloud:D

i dont have a problem unless they leave a mess

If he is rubbish at stealing bags, why don't you ask for a more experienced thief?
