So is the Philips 37PF9830/10 REALLY 1080p

This is all so confusing. It says the panel is 1080p but is it really, truly True HD. I'm in the market and looking to spend upto £3000, so any recommendations would be great. I've seen this set in action running Blu-Ray demos and looks superb, but 3K is a lot of money.

In a word... no! It only accepts up to 1080i, not 1080p. The Philips website is misleading, they tried to explain it with some bull about all LCD screens displaying progressively (as of course they do) but it's a con. If you want 1080p, you just have to wait. There are also lots of problems with the PF9830 series with regards bugs in firmware and switching off suddenly, etc. They also don't do 1:1 pixel mapping so I'd hang on.
