i can't believe it started as far back as 1978. the 80s was the perfect time for such a mag with colourful pop stars like adam ant and boy george and then duran and frankie, but by the late 80s there was a deluge of new magazines and it was left behind

it was funny to see some of the most ridiculous lyrics being printed, like 19 by paul hardcastle or no limits by 2 unlimited

it's also incredible that someone would spend so much time scanning and uploading so much

I had a few copies of the pre-80's issues, they where very indie orientated.

The magazine killed itself by going for the "purely for girls" angle, over Bros mostly. It started as a music magazine, ended up as a giant poster with a gaping void of mid to late 80's trash.

Had it not gone down the girls-only route and stayed true to its original values, it would of kept going with the resurgence of indie music in the late 80's with the Stone Roses and the Pixies etc, however bad the centre poster would of been! :)

not sure what the readers thought ... but the greatest thing associated with it, imho, was Carter USM's Fruitbat rugby tackling the witless Phillip Schofield at the Smash Hits Poll Winners Party
