Hi all, sorry I'm new to this so please be gentle....

Basically for a little while I've been thinking about buying a dreambox and buying a card share subscription so I can get the 3pm football. But I've just purchased a Samsung UE55ES8000 tv, and noticed it has a cam slot, and a satellite tuner built in. Whilst I was browsing the menus I came across settings for hotbird etc... So I assume it'll receive fta channels at least, but just wondered if anyone has had or heard of anyone who has somehow managed to get encrypted channels to decrypt through the television, thus not needing a set top box. Thanks!

You should be able to use a cam and official subscription card, you can on Panasonic TVs. You won't get it using card shares and these cannot be discussed here anyway.

Hi and welcome to the forum, where we're always gentle.
The CAM slot is meant to "get encrypted channels to decrypt through the television" so there must be many people who've done so.
As Kevkbuk suggests you do that by buying a subscription card and CAM.
You'll also need a satellite dish pointed at the appropriate location.
Separate receivers and card sharing are a much more complicated matter.
