    Hi

I am having alot of trouble finding a pair of floorstanders for my new av setup.
They would need to prefruably be in a light colour wood. i have a budget of 300 and cant really go over as that is the last of my spending money  . also the with the speakers smaller the better.

Also i would like to say a big thankyou to all of the people on this site that have helped me with my purchases. i have got my new pw7 set up with my digi box and dvd and wow it looks amazing, so much beter than my 7 year old hitachi crt.

Thank you all so much

anyway all help here is much apreciated

What other speaker do you have or are you looking to go with floor standers first and then buy the others to go around them?

The Mordent Short 906 are nice and around your price I think, got plenty of bass, which is why you'll want a floorstander (as well as the looks :p) and are generaly well received. The other parts of the system you could build up using the rest of mordents range are good too.

i was in my local superfi dealer the other day and they had a pair KEF Q4 on display that looked quite compact. They were up for £299 and in a light beech colour. They looked very nice but i haven't a clue what they soung like.

John, I've got MS906s - for floorstanders they're discreet and look nice...they sound great too.

Other small 'standers are the Canton CD100s - or you could wallmount some CD50s.

If you find them anywhere else for a cheaper price richer will match and you'll probably get £10 off too.

I got my 906 for £280 from RS. They price beat hificonfidential.com. There is another company who do them cheap it could be hispek.com I cant quite remember. If you do a search you should find it - its been mentioned on here before. I think theyre about £260 which means RS will do them for £250. At that price you're on to a winner mate.

It was audiovisual who had them (MS906) on special, now £299 and hiway are £299 for the Avant (906A)- the new ones + £12p+p

You can also get them from a1-sound.co.uk and they're nice people (not like RS) :) for £299 inc delivery

I got mine for £250 - that was to close the deal though as I was buying a 905, 903's and 309...they couldn't find the 914's that I'd asked for in beech so gave me 906's instead

HIwayhifi.com thats the one. Last time I looked on their site they were £260 ish.

I personally think theyre worth the full £350. If you can get them cheaper it's a great bonus.

No offense to the sound from the speakers but i think the m70 range was the ugliest mission have ever produced in recent memory, anything newer or older by a decade is better.

Kepping on the mision subject you could look into getting the 773i second hand, will pay £150 at most for the pair. They are abit thin on the bass but I think most mission speakers suffer from that, suppose it's better than booming uncontrolably all over the place though.

@gfs: :p:p Just didn't want Glitch to have unrealistic expectations of price. I got mine at the same price as you but prices seem to have gone up a bit.

    STOP Press!!

Inspired by this thread I got off the fence and decided that that MS906 was the speakers to upgrade too. ( and not the Cantons) SO i got the price from
HIwayhifi.com of £249 + £12 p&p printed it off and went to RS.

They price matched ( but included P & P) and did a pair for £255. They are the Avant models as well so the MS906A I suspect is the correct reference.

SO Im a very happy bunny and just off to set them up.

I got the 905c as well but that was £119 as I could not find it cheaper anywhere else but hey dropping from £349 to £255 cant say I minded too much!!

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

    Chris

Thought I looked at Hiway, but it was hificonfiential- they had diff prices as they were selling Avant and Declarion MS906 speakers. Avant (MS906A) were more ££. Apologies.

Anyway, another MS906 owner in the clan! ;)

(I did see some 908's for £399 on audiovisualonline...)

    Update

Well everyting is in place and I have thrown a couple of favorite DVDs at them ( Black hawk down, 5th Element) and a bit of music as well.

Running them from Yamaha 750 and they sound fantastic, so I am very pleased. Just used the auto setup from the Amp but I havent tweaked them at all other than that.

I will let them settle down a bit first.

It has set up all the front 3 speakers, 906s and 905c as large speakers, would it be a better sound if I switched them to small. It has set the crossover to the sub at 120, does this mean that the fronts are not getting anything lower than that to deal with??

Not to familiar with the settings just usually play until I get a sound that I like!!! so all advice is most welcome.

This is the site that you need

    http://www.hiwayhifi.com/site/

Just select mordaunt Short under the brand, press go and there you are a quote for £249 to take to RS.

I have to say also that if you are looking at these then the 905c is a vast improvement over the 304c that I was using previously.

I have hooked up my spare 302's as presence speakers for the time being, we will be moving house and at that point they will become the rear pair.

Cant say that I have noticed any difference having them but hey it stops the wife from thinking they may not be required and hence I could sell them!!

Hope you manage to get the same deal I got, I have to say they are very much a bargain at that price.

    Have fun

    Chris

Now I wonder how I can swing an SVS sub!!! big black cylinder behind the couch!! sounds like a plan that will have to wait till we are in the new house.
