Small room worries

I've just been demoing some projectors so far the Infocus 76 and the Optoma HD 73 at Sevenoaks and Audio T respectively, in Oxford. I am due to demo the HD 73 again at Colne early May with some Arcam gear and Kef Speakers, but one thing that worries me, is my viewing distance at 2.7 Metres going to be too close? This is the maximum I can place myself away from the screen and when the people in Audio T and Sevenoaks were doing calculations it looked like I might struggle, please note that I'm not after a large screen a 5ft in my room would be fine but it looks a struggle to get a screen that small if all you're after is a pull down screen. I've been on Projector Central and it was looking a bit grim when I put in those dimensions the cheaper Pannny 100 looked like it might fit the bill and I will be demoing that at Roy Jowett but my computer was playing up a bit and I couldn't see what screen size I could have.

Is there anyone else out there who are projecting from a similar distance and if so what projector, and onto what screen size, and more importantly does it look good?

Cheers for any assistance.:lease:

My projector setup is the projector is 3m away from the wall, with a 100" screen. No complaints at all from me, i suspect you'll be fine :)

Projector= Hitachi PJTX300
Screen Size= 100" Diagonal on full zoom, 76" on no zoom
Screen = AV Forums 'MMUK' Painted Wall
Looks = Tip Top!!!

Thanks

My room is 2.7 metres wall to wall and I've had the pjtx300 for about 6 months now using an 80' screen. You cant see screen door effect don't worry. You have a tad more distance between you and the screen than i do (about 30cm) so even better for you. When I was checking before I bought the thing then I had the same experience as you with the calculator websites and was thinking about having the image at 60 inches so it didnt look too big.
When I actually installed it though I blew it up to 80 and it looked amazing so kept it that way.

I have to tell you though if you play games once you've experienced them on a projector you cant go back to normal tvs again. Just a warning!

Ditto, no noticable screen door effect on mine either, and the picture is great large dispite being oversized according to most websites for the room, and he's also right, you can never go back to normal telly again :)
