    Greetings,

Does anyone have any recommendations as to very small speakers I could use as main speakers. They need to be cheap too. I want to set them up either side of the TV so that the centre is in the centre rather than off to one side due to shape of the room and using hi fi speakers as mains. They have to be small so I can hide them almost. I have a sub which gives good bass effects.

If size is paramount, then I can only suggest Bose Cubes. But not cheap unless you can get them 2nd hand.
The other option is disguise, ie flat panel NXT style, and pretend they are pictures.
If you want small in the conventional sense, I can't think of any from the top of my head.
I can only suggest visit to sites like www.richersounds.co.uk
Other than that, search some of the advertisers in What HiFi and the like.

What are those flat panel Missions which were reviewed a short while ago in What Hi-Fi? The FS2s. They looked pretty small.

Cheap may not always mean good.

Flat speakers spring to mind, the Mission FS2 speakers area great and can be put in the corners of a room.

There's a large list of flat speakers on http://www.flat-speaker.co.uk

    Hi ,

Not cheap, but you could look at Def tech 100,10"h 6"w 5.7"d about £100-£125 or Boston90x, 108mmh 108w 146d for £184ish other than that i suggest a good look round at all speaker company websites.
    Philmate.

Monitor Audio 'Baby Boomers'. £130 from Sevenoaks Hi-Fi. Very small, well built and sound very good for their size. I have paired them up with a REL Q50 sub and together they sound great.

How small is small? There is a standard sort of size for hifi monitors such as the Tannoy MX1 (it tends to be around 28-30cm high). These will be of suitable quality. I have seen the MX1's advertised on a few websites for £89 inc p&p (I think it might have been www.hifistore.co.uk). The only other thing I can think of is the Wharfedale Flat Panel speakers as already mentioned. These too are going cheap at www.hifibitz.co.uk for £139.

I you want small speakers, that are very good value for the money, try to get a hold of some wharfedale modus cubes. They cost you £ 60 for a pair, which is dead cheap, but they sound wonderfull. They're rated five stars out of five in all the mags.

    Cheers,
    Koen

What about some Ariston MX-03 at £9.99 from Richer Sounds, apparently these speakers should have been around £70. Don't know about the sound but they are absolutly tiny(about 20cm tall). Just a thought.
