I currently have The Eltax Stargate X1 sub/sat pack and want to upgrade the front sound stage.

I fancied just changing the front pair to floor standers so I can use the dvd player as a cd player but I have been told that the fronts and centre need to be 'matched' . I would really prefer to have a small centre speaker that will live in my av cabinet. All the centres I've seen have a very low WAF rating - they're all so flippin big.

    Any sugesstions gratefully received.

BTW - WAF = Wife acceptability Factor.

    Cheers

I'm off on the WAF-friendly Gallo balls route.

My current centre sits on the same shelf as my VCR and is only about 125mm long x 150mm tall. It sits ever so slightly off centre - 30mm ish but a bigger speaker would be really off centre.

I would only really want to spend around £150 on all 3 - not much I know.

With that sort of money avaliable ... you could do worse than take a look at Richer Sounds and especially the Gale and Eltax ranges. You might be lucky and be able to get something like Wharfdale 8.3 (plus centre) or Mission M73 (plus centre) for a little over your budget ... but I don't have prices to hand.

With the money you have to spend ... you may do better looking at things like the Wharfedale 8.2, KEF Cresta 2, Mission 771e at around £70 a pair, then a pair of resonable stands (Gale T60 or Attacama SE24) and a matching centre (or another pair of the same speakers using 1 as a centre (if it's magnetically shielded) and keeping the other as a spare or selling it to offset some of the cost.

Thanks for the advice. Do you think that my current sat Eltax's would sound ok with an upgraded front set?? The rears are just for effects etc etc.. or will I be drowning them out.

I don't know the Eltax speakers you have ... but almost anything will work fine as the rears.

BTW ... sorry I Edited my post after you responded ...
