slow zip performance

Vista 32 bit Ultimate version. Uncompressing zip files is ridiculously slow. This issue is all over the internet, but I’ve not yet seen a fix or explanation.

HD disk performance is fine otherwise.

Any info?

Had exactly the same issue - installed 7-zip to bypass the default Vista processing resulting in much better performance.

Not an ideal solution - but will keep me going until SP1 or whenever a fix turns up.

Windows built in zip utility is awfully slow compared to WinZip or Winrar, a few dats ago i zipped up 30,000 Word documents using Windows zip and boy was it slow, i think the machine was a pretty decent spec Xeon too.

WinZip or Winrar all the way!

yup - plenty of 3rd party tools out there - so no big deal.

btw : when i say slow, i'm talking 15 minutes to uncompress a 1MB file!
