I ran a check to see what speed I would get with BT Infinity, and it's just 21.7mb down and 3.3mb up.

I am on LLU ADSL 2 and I already get 19mb down and 1.3mb up.

this increase in speed is gash :(

My friends within half a mile of me can get 33mb down and 13mb up.

I rang BT and they said, that's all the speed you will get.

Remember the estimates are conservative. BT estimated I'd get 14.1Mbps and wouldn't give it to me because of that, when I eventually managed to get it I got in the region of 20Mbps and now get 28.

These estimates are still based on the old profile. You will probably get more than that. The only way to find out would be to get it installed.

As above, can almost guarantee you will get more than the estimate.

The online support person did mention profile. How do you go about shifting your profile and what is the old vs new profile?

BT did say I would get 12mb on ADSL and I get 19mb so I know they under estimate.

How did you go from 20mb to 28mb? Also, what did your upload speed change to? It's the upload speed I am more interested in rather than download, as I am happy with 19mb as it stands.

I don't know what happened. My speeds started off around the 27Mb mark and then slowly fell to 20Mb as more adopted it. I was used to this and still pleased as I'd come from an unstable ADSL connection of 2 down, 0.3 up to having 20 down, 5/6 up.

I randomly did a speedtest at somepoint and noticed the download speed had gone up to 28Mb which was also reflected in the download speeds I could actually manage too. A speedtest I've just done:

You cant move profiles as its something at the back end out of your control. It was basically bt upgrading everyone on fttc to a new vdsl profile for the upcoming 80mbps speeds. It shifted a few things around and as a result people should be able to get more than what they were predicted. If you couldnt get the full 40mbps speeds before the upgrade they should be able get closer to or exceed that figure now.

They maintain 21mb is the speed I can expect which is awful.

If I take FTTC out, can you back out at all or are you tied into 12months?

    No cool down period

I was quoted 27mbps down and 10 up

I get more or less 38mbps down and 8.5 up so there estimates are vastly under
