Just recently purchased a PS3 a couple of nights ago and love it!

The only thing that really is bugging me at the moment is the download speeds. I've been browsing around on many sites and forums and cannot find an explanation to this.

I've purchased Kane & Lynch tonight hoping to play it as soon as I get in, but was disappointed to see that it needed a software update. Looks like I won't be playing it today

I've even swapped to a wired connection hoping it would be faster but no luck!

Has anyone got an official explanation to this??

Your internet connection could be rubbish... who's your ISP?

From my experience the vast majority of downloads through the PS3 are as fast as my 4 Meg connection will go.

Hopefully this will be one of the things Sony will fix soon.

You could try running a speed test. I assume you're on ADSL and not cable?

Same here and its a pain in the rear! I have been downloading the battlefield bad company demo for days now! The crap speeds only started happening a few days ago, but nothing I try seems to help. So far, I have hard reseted my router, changed from wireless to wired but still the issue persists.

Im now seeking advice through the forums so glad that other are having the same issues and its not an isolated incident!

My ISP is UKOnline btw, but doubt that will be the problem.

The recent software update took a good 30 mins for me on a 2meg connection. Needless to say I wasn't impressed as I wanted to play

Do people encounter slow 'browsing' speeds as well sometimes using the PS browser or PS Store? My PS3 is on a wireless connection. Have a PC that is also connecting wirelessly to my router and browsing speeds on that are fine.

    Thanks in advance!

Seem to remember reading a thread about this exact same problem on here, they phoned sony and sony told them to reformat their hard drive and this apparently fixed the problem for them. So if your PS3 is new and hasn't got a lot of content on the hard drive trying reformatting it, but first make sure you backup all your game saves.

Mine has always been fine with downloading, has anyone with slow speeds actually tried running the speed test i posted above? In my experience 9 times out of 10 people moaning about slow internet on anything have the ISP to blame not the device.

These are my results on speedtest.net.

I always get relatively slow downloads via Playstation store, however I'm pretty sure that I get "traffic shaped" by Virgin though..........

I've got a broadband ADR of 5mbps. If I'm downloading demos then it seems really slow (3 or 4 hours for 500Mb?).

I downloaded Wipeout last weekend (around 1Gb) and that only took about 20 minutes so I just thought that Sony might be doing a bit of "prioritising" too (ie. if you're paying for something it's fast, if it's a demo or free update, etc. then it'll be slow).

I'll be testing this again later on today as I'm hoping to download the Bioshock demo.

I am on virgin media 20meg download and ps3 downloads used to be very slow.
On my pc and xbox360 downloading is fast.
So i got a friend of mine who works for virgin media to check my system.
In the end after a lot of tests he changed the modem to a scientific atlanta and the ps3 speed is now much better.
It is still not as fast as the pc and xbox but it is a lot better.
I dont no if you guys no but virgin media are going up to 50meg downloading later this year.

I'm sure I've posted in this thread before.

I'm on Virgin 20meg. I can download 4gig of newsgroups in 20minutes yet PSN 1gb takes a couple of hours.

This is outside of the traffic shaping times.

Might see if I can get a new modem.

If you have the old type modem just ring them and i am sure they will change it.
I am downloading the pro evo demo now and its about 50% after 20mins.
    Which is not to bad.
I will download it on the 360 later and i would bet its a lot quicker.
I think part of the problem is the sony servers.
    Good luck with virgin.

lol :D but seriously if you guys are experiencing very slow downloads then try reformatting the hard drive this should increase instalation and downloading speeds.

How do you connect to your ps3. Straight from you Scientic Atlanta Virgin Media Modem (I Have One Of these but a 2meg connection). Or do you use a wireless router or something. As I have been downloading the Pro evo 2008 for the last 2 hours and still on 90%. I have a wireless router that I use which is WGT624, When I do a speed test I only get about 700kb but connected straight to the Virgin media modem which the computer can only do i get my full 2mbs. But I did the speed test while downloading content. Is there I can connect it straight to the virgin media modem to make the speeds faster. Or is it my wireless router. Or is it just i wont get any after. Thanks
