I am thinking about changing my Panasonic 28" for either the Toshiba 32ZH46 or the Toshiba 32Z44.

I allready have a surround amp and speakers so I am not bothered about the sound - just the picture quality. The good thing about both these sets is that there are no speakers at the side of the cabinet and you end up with a 32" screen at roughly the same width as my Panny 28" (the tosh is 1cm wider).

The 32ZH46 is 100Hz and I can get it for £580 inc postage
    The 32 Z44 is 50Hz and is £500 inc postage or £510 inc a Tosh240 DVD player.

    http://www.homecinemachoice.com/cgi-bin/shownews.php?id=6835

Has anyone got either of these sets and if so, whats their thoughts ??

    Thanks in advance.

    I have a 32Z47 arriving tomorrow.
It's basically the 32Z44 with a couple extra features for the same price - £500
I'll let you know my opinion over the next few days.

Boozyuzi - On the link you gave, it says there are "Two RGB Scarts" is this true? also do you know any sites that have a review of the TV?

Harmunt - where did you order yours from?

    Thanks
    Lee.

Got mine at Currys for £500. Delivered this morning at 7:45am!
Only has one RGB socket, however, I use a scart box to utilise the single RGB socket for all my peripherals.

Initial impressions after an hour or so...

Xbox, Gamecube - Smashing quality (50Hz rocks!)
    Sky Digibox - Excellent
    DVD - Excellent

    More as I use it...

    Stand does indeed come flat-packed.
Nice and simple one to construct too.

Geometry errors are to the absolute minimum.
I used my DVD test disc and the grid layer displays the most minor (and I mean, MINOR) bend in the bottom left corner, but everywhere else is perfect.

Interesting to note that this Tosh replaces my old 29" JVC set and the footprint is identical! The removal of any side flanking speakers was a masterstroke!

£650 now! Bugger, I was going to order one for my parents too!

Found The 28inch one here, They also have the 32inch versions.

    Here: http://www.digitalempireonline.co.uk/default.asp?Detail=Yes&ModelID=313

    & Here: http://www.electricalscentre.com/acatalog/28_100HZ_Nicam_Compact_Design_TV.html

Harmunt - I also have a scart box with four extra ports on, it's just that I would like 5 altogether

I have a Xbox, Gamecube, PS2, DVD Player & Sky Digital

Never mind 4 will have to do,
Hurmunt is there any chance you could post some pics of the TV, as I would like to see the back and the side if possible please.

    Thanks
    Lee.

I have the 28Z44 in my sons bedroom. I think that it is a good solid 50HZ TV for everyday viewing.

I believe that it can be had for around £300.00 on line.

    Cheers

    Paul

They have the cheapest price I have seen so far for the 32" + free 240 DVD player = £498.83 inc delivery + you can upgrade to the 340 DVD player for only £16.

I have never heard of Electricalscentre though - has anyone ?

Empire Direct is £510.90 with free 240 DVD
Digital Direct is £498.82 but no DVD player.

Well, after three days of usage I have only found one issue...
    A VERY niggly issue...

It has a buzzing issue at the rear of the set.

    :(

I'll have to try and live with it but it is a tad annoying during quieter scenes in games/movies.

Why not get it swapped ?

I will let you know if I notice any buzzing from my 44 (arrives Sat) as it might be an issue with the 47 as the sound is slightly differant.

Can you notice the buzzing even when the sound is muted ?

    Picture is perfectly stable.
I have listened to three Tvs in mate's houses over the last two days, and they all exhibited a buzz from the rear of the set. One Toshiba, and two Sony sets.

TV arrived today and so far I can't fault it. I have had a listen for some buzzing but none so far. No obvious geometry problem either.

Digital Direct even supplied me with a free multi-region Tosh 340 instead of the 240 - and there's a free 2 disc copy of Monsters Inc in the box !!

I will definately use them again.

    Are you sure mate?
Pay particular attention to the right hand side vent.

I was out my sister's this evening and I listened to her more expensive Tosh TV and that too emitted the buzz from this area.

Your right, there is a very faint buzz from the right hand side - nothing to worry about though. I can't hear it from more than 2 feet away.

I have noticed one tiny geometry problem - the bottom right hand side of the screen slopes downwards by about 2mm. You can only notice it with the ticker on Sky Sports News. All vertical's look perfect.

The stand is a bit small as well - the tv sits a bit lower than my Panny 28".

    Apart from that - it's a winner.

Maybe my hearing is super sensitive because I can hear it from 6 feet away.
Suppose I'll get used to it...

I have exactly the same but on the bottom left hand side.

I've obtained the code to enter the engineer service menu but it is difficult to navigate and understand.
I'm afraid that without prior knowledge I could fudge up the set.

For the benefit of everyone else who may want it,
I'll post the service code here as well -

Press sound mute (on remote) - Tv displays sound mute OSD.
Hold down sound mute and press the menu button on the control panel.
TV displays the service mode data with an 'S' in the corner of the screen.
This gives basic geometry and display data.

    When in service mode:-
Hold down CALL (on the remote) and press the menu button on the control panel.
    Set then enters design mode.
All sub data can then be adjusted.

Im considering maybe the 28 inch 28Z44......but the slight flaw in the geometry is slightly off putting, have you guys fixed it in the service menu?

Also can you guys check if there is a very very faint vertical bar running down the centre of the screen (slightly to the right). Its very noticable during football matches and bright scenes, its looks sort of whitish. I had this issue with two of the bigger Toshiba sets. Cheers in advance. This is very important so please look closely.

I have had a real close look and can see no evidence of the 'bar' that you describe.
