slimline is just the same as the old one apart from the fact it is smaller and things have been tightened up inside the casing . Dont think they have changed anything else

It's smaller , has a built in ethernet port , built in infrared sensor and has a flip lid instead of a cd tray.

But all the games still look and play the same. It doesn't improve the graphics or anything if that's what you expected.

I had read on other Forums the problems some people have had with the new Slim PS2's

Over heating
Lasers not as good , like the first original PS2's
Not built as well , due the the size

:thumbsdow

Original v7 PS2 for me :D

only time I heard about over-heating was when people tried to adapt them but aparantly they have sorted that.

I will probably get a slimline PS2 when my bulky one breaks

Not built well - due to the size?? How's that work then? Surely build quality and physical size are completely unrelated things?! That's like saying Kylie's a minger just cos she's small! ;)

BTW - I've got a slimline PS2 and it seems to be perfectly well built

not normally one to butt in one these matters BUT...new slimline PSTwo's dont need a fan 'cos the power supply is external which is how they make them so darn slim and therefore helps out with the laser problem because the fan is not dragging in dust all over the insides of your machine. How come they didnt think of that sooner?

Anyway-for what its worth, i've got one and i personally think its too bloody noisy when its spinning discs.

Oh......cooling fans! Right, it's just that from your original post (the one with no reference whatsoever to cooling fans) you implied (probably unintentionally, by the sound of it) that the build quality of the new slimline PS2 was inferior, because it's smaller. Which would be a very bizarre statement to make! But I catch ya drift now. Perhaps you should maked sure your posts are clear, before you hit the submit button? So, there. :lesson: :D ;)

Granty - thanks for that info. I learn something every day on this forum. Love it! :smashin:

Heard the laser is not great too. Also has less connectivity to other things, like the external HD and maybe others?

Harder to get chips for it

The new mini Ps2 is poorly constructed compared to originals, looks a cheaper build, and feels the same.

m8 bought one took it back and bought original style PS2 2nd hand :)
then sold that and got an Xbox :D

I can't fault the build quality of the old PS2 - my mate somehow yanked mine off it's shelf (about 5 ft up) today and it hit the floor with an huge bang!

I naturally felt the worst as I picked it up! The component lead connection was shagged but this appeared to be the only external damage! Then the real test - I hooked it up to my TV via RGB and couldn't believe my eyes when it worked. A lucky escape with only a new Component lead to fork out for.
