Why is it they tend to be stupidly expensive?

Got a quote from Sliderobes to do just the tracks and doors (no internal shelving or other sundries). It's wall to wall so they have no end panels to install. Walls are 99.99% plumb and level so no packing out required either.

"Starts from about £2.5k" was the response... seems a bit steep for some metal and sheet goods. If I was asking for some rare, solid timber fair enough, but it's probably MDF or MFC!

We recently had our bedroom done, initially I was looking at slide wardrobes across one wall, I looked at some of the major retailers and the starting prices looked crazy!

In the end I advertised the job on rated people and got a few local quotes, we ended up changing the design completely but the original quote was certainly better than than the likes of sharps or sliderobes et al

Try to find them on sale; we got 2 sets of sliding doors - one set mirrored and one set with white glass panels - and also enough internal shelving for 3 wardrobes (one set we hung in our laundry room without doors) all for almost half price. Around 2k I think.

We did all the work ourselves though.

I bought my sliding wardrobes (wall to wall like yourself) from Screwfix Wardrobes Direct fo well under half the price you quoted and then got a local carpenter to install them for a few hundred. Think the whole think (4 sliding doors and internals) only came to around £1k installed.

still wonder why so expensive. they were fitted in many 60s houses and seem quite simply made up.

    Overpriced mostly.

But, from my experience, there is an enormous difference in the quality of door materials and finish too between the cheaper and more expensive models.

If the sizes work out (the four sizes listed are 150/200cm x 201/236cm), there's an IkeaHack way of going about this. Drill, hang 'em, get soft closers and you're done. Just saying.
