Posted over on the DVD player section about the fuss this bad boy is making over at avscience - anyone any thoughts ?

What about the potential to use it as a deinterlacer for other sources ? - better than an Iscan pro potentially??

What do you guys think ?

Oh God !!! - no replies , that means I`m going to have to think for myself for a change !!!

    - Well, I`m gonna give it a shot !!.

I`ll be ordering today - hopefully will arrive sometime mid June (intact I hope !)

Any thoughts on how much duty I can expect to pay (cost us$260)?

I`ll post on receipt - I guess this will be the first player over here using the faroudja for deinterlacing, and the first giving pal progressive.

    Fingers crossed.......

let me know where you get it from, it looks interesting. How would it compare to a HCPC?

Thought I would hang on until someone else cracks :D :D

I am seriously tempted myself. I need some scaling for a projector and I have built a HCPC (temp) but I really fancied a proper scaler (Vigatec) but Tag McClaren through a spanner in the works by hinting that the updated AV32R (AV192R) would do video scaling. I therefore need a cheap 'short term fix' to tide me over until I can see what Tags plans are. The skyworth seems an excellent compromise that can be used elsewhere afterwards. Keep us informed Tiberious

Wow, this player looks very interesting. I wonder how long before the Sage chip makes it into other devices (other players, de-interlacers/scalers, projectors)?

Let us know how it performs Tiberious.

    Cheers,
    Liam

I really don't know if it was the same thing but I've seen a couple of Skyworth dvd players in Chinatown (here in Manchester) one was £199 and one was £299.

I'll have a look on monday when I'm in town next.

    Cheers
    Alex

Well I have had a search around for more progressive scan players having had my appetite wetted by the Skyworth and I have come up with the following. It looks like the Skyworth will not be alone. There are a few ‘systems' amongst this lot together with a Taiwan de-interlacer (Sage?). The future is rosy for those on tight budgets:

I tried unsuccessfully to include URLs but they were too long to fit on one line but if you got to
    http://www.audioandvideo.globalsources.com

and search the DVD players section for progressive scan players you should come up with about 19 hits, not including the Skyworth which looks the most interesting still.

    They are:

Shenzhen Shinelong Electronics Industrial Co Ltd
SL-P2300KP Quality Certified PDVD Player with Progressive Scan Components Video Output-Y Pb Pr

    MPEG Systems Ltd
DV-600P DVD Player with Progressive-Scan Video Component Outputs (Y Pb Pr)

having read up on this for quite some time....I am under the impression that the major point of the skyworth is its video processing chip (i should take the time to actually read the name...what is it, fajourda???)....but perhaps some of these other players will include this. I am certainly hoping to get my hands on one of these machines....even more keen that they make a standalone processing unit...in the range perhaps to be a rival for the iscan....here is hoping!!
