Sky's new football highlights show is due to start tomorrow (Sat) night where you can pick which game you want to watch 50-minute highlights of.

Anyone know if it's going to be possible to record the game of your choice via SKY+ ? If it can be done that would be pretty impressive.

Not right now but an update to the OS is expected soon that will allow you to record programming behind the interactive layer.

well you can record the match, but you have to select the match via the red button

why on earth they do not rotate the default match on each of the repeats is beyond me, they woul dbe incredibly easy to impliment.

I wonder when they decide which is going to be the match they show the full 90min of

you can not record the interactive matches only the default match. I hope someone had the brains to rotate it.

Why's West Ham vs Wigan not televised?! Who wants to watch the soddin' Premiership: overpaid pre-madonnas, billionaire mafia bosses, foreign imports... The Championship, that's where the heart and sole of British football is...!

    *Repeats to self*

Saw it suggested on Digital Spy that the reason could be to incentivise cable customers (who don't get the interactive service and therefore are stuck with the main game) to switch to Sky.

What do you think this means for the BBC's highlights programme? On the whole I'm only really interested in how my team plays and tend to fast forward through the other games. Surely I'll just watch sky's 50 min highlights instead of MOTD? well, that's if I had Sky and not NTL.......Digital teletext, interactive service, Sky+ box with dual recording, and hi-def in 2006. As faras NTL has made it aware, there's not a sniff of innovation around the corner. The digital boxes don't even have phono outputs let alone 5.1.

I think that is the exact reason why they are not rotatins (cable)

I think there will always be a place for Match of the Day. I like to see the goals from the other games and at least they showed a decent amount from each game. almost 40 min was given to the other 5 games after the main 3 matches. Better than on the prem where we had 55min of arsenal, man utd, chelsea and liverpool then 2 sec from every other match.

What annoys me most however is how 2 of the 3 MotD's main matches were ones which had already been shown live.

MotD is intended for those who don't have access to SKY sports though so SKY having shown some games live wouldn't be an issue:)
As for their choice, the live matches on SKY would still have the most cameras and on sight production facilities which means better and more complete highlights package compared to the other matches I would have thought?

MofD uses the same raw footage as sky.

The majority of people who really wanted to watch matches that have already been screened live would either watch the match live or actually go to the match.

If you do not have sky then of course you have the option of going to a pub which screens the football.

If it is a child, the it can sod off as it is not paying a licence fee ;)
