At your fingertips

Skype has released a major refresh for its App on Android devices bringing it to Version 4.0. The news comes in the wake of the app reaching the 100 million times downloaded milestone and gives the interface a more tiled, Metro-like look.

Skype's intent is to put 'conversations first', and has completely redesigned the interface to be faster and easier – especially when you’re trying to fire off a quick message. Everything is described as now being at your fingertips.

The new look lists your recent conversations from the off where previously it would be necessary to navigate from the welcome screen. Further, when you tap or swipe over to the Contacts or Favourites tabs, tapping on a person brings you straight into a messaging window so you can start a conversation. And from there video calls, voice calls and everything else are just one tap away.

They are also making it more mobile friendly by introducing performance improvements that should make it less power hungry for those on the move.

“This release is just the beginning,” Skype’s Derek Snyder said. “We have more updates in the coming months and year ahead to make Skype for Android even more reliable, reachable, and mobile-friendly.”

The app has yet to appear on Google Play but you can get it direct from Skype's here.
