Hi

My Sky+ box started to freeze, make a loud fan noise and then turn itself off a few months ago, since then I have done the reset HDD trick, the update the software bit but its still happening and getting worse....

So, what alternative PVR's are there that can hook up to a dish? Sky want £65 just to look at the box and then there is no guarantee I wont need a new box anyway.

Any suggestions?

The £65 that Sky charges covers their visit and a guaranteed repair or a new box free of charge. In my experience, they never try to repair the hardware, they just give you a new box which will be the latest version 3, 80Gb box. Whichever way you look at it, it is cheaper to pay the £65 than buy a new box from some other dealer.

My Pace v3 Sky + box died as a result of the thunderstorms last week. I had to pay them £65, but as expected the installer took one look at it and replaced it with a brand new unit.
If you want to stay with Sky it's the cheapest option.
