Hi. I was thinking of upgrading to Sky+ and I see equipment offered on Ebay and the bids are £150.00 to £200.00. I must be missing something because its only £149 for the small Sky+ box via Sky. Why would I want to buy via ebay?

    Regards

I thought you had to have a contract or the system does not work because they do not give you a card. I also do not have mine plugged into the phone all the time, actually I only plugged it in for about 3 hrs when I first commissioned the system.

A lot of people buy the Ebay Sky+ boxes to replace broken ones. If you are already a Sky+ subscriber, you don't qualify for the £149 deal.

Because its like anything, things on ebay can often go for more than what you may pay on a website online.

To be honest though, the difference isnt that huge!

    http://www.simplydigital.co.uk/acatalog/Sky_Plus_Receivers.html

If I got the 250gb box from here ... I would still need Sky + installed....
how would I do that? Would still need to call Sky?
Still pay for installation, and subscription?

I have nothing at the mo ... but do have a NORMAL mini-dish outside my house (that was previous house owners).

Maybe because the £149 ones aren't supplied with an LNB and dish ?

I've just done a search for completed sales of Sky+ boxes on Ebay - three people paid £179 each, but they included an LNB & dish, and the average price paid was £139. The only ones I saw going for £200+ were Sky+160 units.

xstyle you can fit it your self or get a local aerial man to do so, and then you just phone sky up either subscribe or change your current to plus....

Plenty of food for thought here people thanks for that and Nick_uk I think you are right about it could be people who's box dies. My rule of Thumb on Ebay is never pay more than 75% of what I would pay in a regular shop so my £150 box's max bid would be £112 because when you add postage of £10+ and the risk... Ok you people, if you see me bid, do not come in 50p higher.
