Does anyone know what format sky+ records in on the hard drive?
Reason being i wanted to add some video files to the hd via the computer and try to view them.

The Sky+ box uses the standard filing system as used in PC's, but all the files are encrypted. The box won't recognise any files you add.

My simplistic understanding is that the Sky+ records the incoming signal - but does not decode it into any sort of video. It only decodes it when you watch it. Hence the picture is as good recorded as it is live - minus the red dot.

So the box has two tuners - to receive the incoming signal - but only one decoder.

You need to copy the recording somewhere else - perhaps to a DVDR with a HD - to edit/manage it in someway.

Yes it will record an encrypted (demultiplexed) MPEG stream
