Sky+ V1 box and the perils of DIY installation

Purchased a Sky+ box from Dixons June 2003. Installed it myself. No problems until a couple of days ago when it just locked up and then would not come out of standby. 3 days later got it working by doing the most bizarre combination of reboot and key presses only to find the 2nd tuner is dead.

SKY won't touch it because they didn't install it.

Dixons won't touch it because it clearly states on the box it has to be installed by SKY.

That was a waste of £200 then.

Jeez.

Talk to your local CAB.
While there are products that HAVE to be installed by "experts" I doubt that Dixons could wipe their hands over the standard one year warranty because you connected a piece of consumer electronics to an existing dish without a need to open the hardware or tamper with it's components.

Any small claims judge when faced with the SKY+ installation routine would laugh Dixons and SKY out of court for using a DIY install as a reason not to honour a warranty.
