I am going away on holiday next week and have set some programmes to record in my absence, will any sky+ update that is due to happen soon affect the planner, and if so is there any way that I can set the box to record e.g. manual recordings, that will not be affected by the upgrade?

    Thanks

I've never had an update affect any of the items in the planner before and the only thing I notice is that it's tuned to a different channel if left switched on. If it were me I'd put it in standby and keep my fingers crossed

I would doubt whether the update would affect recording unless you were unlucky enough to have the box do a reset half way through a recording, but since most updates happen overnight, that's unlikely too.
