Sky Update - Dolby Digital now available over HDMI

I just noticed on my Sky HD box menu that Dolby Digital is now available over HDMI.

I'm not one to check this very often so I'm not sure when my box updated.

That's one less cable to clutter up the lounge

Dolby Digital has always been available over HDMI, in stereo only.
There has been a lot of discussion on the forum about the fact that they're changing that, so that when a programme or a channel carries something better than DD stereo, such as 5:1, HDMI will carry that also.

How can I tell if I've had the update yet?

OP "noticed on my Sky HD box menu" so that's where to look, under Audio.

Easiest way to tell if your box has received the update or not is to just open TV guide and see if the Sky logo is on the right next to the mini TV (Not yet received update) or if the Sky logo is in the top left of the screen you have received the update. :smashin:

No it hasn't. Prior to the update only 2-ch PCM audio was available over HDMI.

AFAIK Sky referred to the stereo as DD.

Same here the sound menu offers DD5.1 over HDMI and DD5.1 optical. At last, hope this cures the lip sync issues on some channels
