hello all,

this one has been bugging me for ages. Its a bit of along story, so bear with me.

We have a sky box (panasonic tu30SB) I think thats the model.
We had this installed 5 or 6 years ago now by an independent sky installer.

Where we live we have a long row of v. tall trees! (probaly 100ft) and they are not too far from our house.

The sky dish is current;y on an extened pole on the chimney.

Now between Sept and May - generally apart from bad weather / wind / rain I get good picture quality.

Over the summer months - when the leaves are on the trees - it all goes horrbly wrong!
Picture freezes, and then oftern looses signal complelty .But sometimes its all ok.
There is no pattern. Apart from maybe when its windy.

Thing is our neighbours - all with 2 houses away all have sky and no problems.
One of them even has theirs installed on the gutter - lower doewn than mine.
Mys signal level / quality dropepd to around 40/50% sometimes less.
I popped round neighbours - he signal was 80% plus and rock solid.

My signal fluctuates.

My question?

1/ Is this definaly a tree problem?
2/ Could my fairly old panasonic be at fault?
3/ Should I try to move this dish - or get sky to move dish to gutter?

I do not want to waste money - but I generally prefer Sky to Telewest? It's simply a better
system, tv guide, etc, channels .

Any help, assistance, advise would be well received.

I even tried to contact the council - to no avail!

thanks

I would say it is a tree problem...foliage on trees during summer months is a well-known reception problem.
It is not the TV.
Yes...try getting the dish moved/realigned.

It's a leaf problem. All you need to do is to get someone to climb the relevant tree with a metal tray or disc. (Cardboard covered with aluminium foil will do). Move it around to determine the exact position of the "beam" (your signal will disappear). Then strip off the leaves in that small circle. You'll need to clear about a metre circle to allow for branch movement on windy days.

Alternatively, stand at the bottom of the tree with a suitably positioned chain saw
