I would like to record tv from sky digital to my PC for burning on DVD.
The problem is that my PC is upstairs and Sky box is in the living room!.

My pc has a tv turner with compsite and S lead connections. I have ruled out cables because of the distance- coaxial cables even with a booster pack will look terrible! and I am not sure if composite / s-lead will be any better at that distance (even if I can get a lead that long!).

Are the tv wireless senders any good as I guess I could fit a Scart lead to the back of my gx card (all-in-wonder 9800 se)?

    Like the:
AEI PC Sender - PC -> TV Wireless Video Sender
    Micromark Wireless TV Picture Sender
    PCSENDER DV200 PC-TV HI-FI WIRELESS VIDEO SENDER
Digisender Wirefree Audio & Video Sender With Remote Control
DIGISENDER DG200 WIRELESS HI-FI VIDEO SENDER KIT
    Philips Video Sender

Would the picture by ok, prone to interference etc. (from PC )?

Are there any other possibilities ? without costing a fortune?

    Many thanks.

If your digibox doesn't have s-video out, the best you'll get is composite unless you buy a Sweetspot capture card (RGB capture). Another option is an RGB to s-video convertor. Both aren't cheap (as you're on a budget).

Composite isn't great, especially if transferring later to DVD.

So a wireless av sender should provide similisr results to direct composite capture - i.e. not great :(

    Thank you for your reply.

What if Il ink my digibox through my VCR output (S- lead) and S-lead tihs cable to my PC in. Would the length of cable via S-lead still cause considerable quality loss?

    Many thanks,

What's the actual length of cable needed?

Well if you ran Component or RGB over that length you'd be ok.
S-Video a little worse and Composite quite bad. It just gives the signals longer to cross over and interfere.
You didn't say what your budget was, but RGB into SweetSpot http://www.pluggedin.tv/sweetspot would be fine. SweetSpot is compatible with all the well-used recording apps.
The absolute best way would be to SDI modify your SKY box (some are modifiable some aren't) and run that to the PC using the SweetSpot SDI capture card (look at the buynow page on the earlier link). SDI is digital and can run over 100m with no problems. Just make sure it's a proper 75 ohm cable and connectors.

    Hope that helps
    Alex
