You will not have to connect a phone line if you don't get a subsidised box from Sky.

Get your card authorised here before you leave the UK as it is much easier. You will need to have this done in the box you are taking abroad as cards are married to individual receivers.

Have you checked that you will be able to receive the Sky channels at your new address?

Sorry, just realised that you won't have a dish so this won't be possible, unless you can persuade a friend with Sky to allow you to connect your receiver to his system.

Where are you going? There are lots of companies around that handle equipment, installations, subscriptions etc for expats. Easiest is to take an existing UK subscription with you and just get a big dish when you get to the new place, but as Robbie34 says, you'll have to have a non-subsidised subscription, or have had it for a minimum 12 months, so that you don't need the phone connection.

Depends where you are going as well, BBC is now a pain to recieve - big dishes, eg 2.4m at least in S. Spain I've heard...

Misleading. 2.4m is correct for the Alicante area but southern coast gets away with 1.2m - 1.5m.
