I just got upgraded to sky plus and the difference in picture quality, over my standard sky is huge on my 50" Plasma. I am guessing it is the new LNB because now I have a sharper picture, with far less noise. I had not seen a picture improvement mentioned as a reason to upgrade from Sky to Sky+ before, so I take it, this is not standard ?

That's not fair, My Sky+ is ALOT worse picture quality than my 10 year old grundig and sony boxes :( I think the picture on Sky+ is usually worse.

I am a lucky bunny then. As I say, I think it could be the lNB change that made the difference, but hey! I aint complaining. Sorry you have not had same luck though

Since SKY D launched in 1998 having 10 year old hardware is impressive:)

A lower noise LNB combined with better cables and a well aligned dish will give the tuner a cleaner signal and require less error correction, it's not unthinkable that the result would be a better picture.
Of course the original hardware might have been totally acceptable but overtime with exposure to the elements the signal has been degraded to the point that a fresh install suddenly looks leaps and bounds better:)

Well I'd guess when the put on the new LNB they realigned the dish as it had moved a bit. Nothing to do with Sky+.

Sky+ is capable of very good PQ, but different channels have different data rates, so some are v. good, and some channels are :censored:

I must admit, that it was noticeable that the Sky+ pic via our Pace 3100,was a fair degree better than the previous Panasonic Sky box we were using - but the new box also benefitted from a new LNB,so that in part could explain why the picture is better. The dish in this case was not re-aligned.
